DIY Castor Oil Packs vs Ready Made Castor Wraps

DIY Castor Oil Packs vs Ready Made Castor Wraps

If you love a DIY approach, the homemade method is a great starting point. If you want something easier to use, more secure, and less messy, a ready-made castor wrap is a simple upgrade that helps you stay consistent.

DIY castor oil pack method

What you need

  • High quality cold pressed castor oil
  • A piece of cotton flannel or soft cotton fabric
  • Cling wrap or a protective layer to prevent staining
  • A heat pack or hot water bottle
  • An old towel

Step by step

  1. Prepare your space
Choose a comfortable place to lie down. Put an old towel underneath you to protect clothing and bedding from oil.
  2. Saturate the fabric
Add castor oil to the cotton flannel until it is well soaked but not dripping.
  3. Place the pack on the body
Lay the fabric on the desired area.
  4. Protect your clothing and bedding
Place plastic wrap or a protective layer over the fabric.
  5. Add warmth
Place a heat pack or hot water bottle on top to maintain a gentle warmth.
  6. Rest and relax
Relax for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  7. Remove and wipe
Remove the pack and wipe away any excess oil.

Ready made castor wrap method

A ready made castor wrap makes the process easier and less messy. It is designed to hold the oil in place and strap securely to the body so you can relax without juggling layers of fabric and cling wrap. It has a soft cotton side that sits against your skin, plus a waterproof outer layer to help prevent oil from leaking through.

Step by step instructions

  1. Apply the oil
Apply up to 1 tablespoon of castor oil in the center of the wrap, avoiding the edges.
  2. Let the oil soak in
Wait 10 to 15 minutes for the oil to soak in. Or use the back of a spoon to smooth the oil into the wrap.
  3. Secure in place
Place the wrap onto the desired area on your body. Adjust the straps for a snug fit with the soft cotton side on your bare skin.
  4. Activate heat
Your body heat will naturally warm the oil. You can also use a heat pack to maintain warmth.
  5. Relax and absorb
Relax for 30 minutes to 1 hour for optimal oil absorption.
  6. Remove and wipe
Remove the wrap and wipe off any excess oil.

How often to use for best results

  • Use daily, 4 to 5 times per week, for a few weeks at a time for maximum benefits.

Washing and care

  • Pre soak with baking soda and or borax.
  • Then hand wash or wash separately.

If you are using the wrap frequently, you can wash it after a few uses. Just watch that the oil does not build up too much inside, as this can increase the risk of leaks.

Storage tips

  • Store in a cool, dark place.
  • Store in a sealed bag or glass container.

Overnight use note

If you wear it overnight in bed, it is best to place a towel down in case the wrap moves around.
